Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation’s free touch tank, located at the Isles of Shoals Steamship Company dock on Market
Street, will hold its grand opening celebration this Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come see all the tank has to offer!

The free event will mark the beginning of the marine touch tank’s full summer season, when the tank will be open every day. There will
be snacks, story time, crafts, games, and lots of critters. Raffles will give visitors a chance to win money and Blue Ocean Society
merchandise.

Saturday’s event is free and open to the public. Donations are warmly welcomed and help make the touch tank possible!

The day’s schedule of events includes:
•        Snacks and crafts all day.
•        Story time, 10:30 a.m.
•        Lunchtime at the tank, 12 noon – bring a picnic and have lunch with the critters.
•        Feeding time, 1 p.m. – watch the crabs chow down on haddock donated by Seaport Fish of Rye.
•        Historic Isles of Shoals and Portsmouth Harbor Tour, 1:55 p.m. (ticket purchase required) – join critters on board the Isles of
Shoals Steamship Company’s M/V Thomas Laighton for a tour of the islands, a story time with Blue Ocean Society and a raffle for cash
and other prizes.
•        Prize raffle, 2 p.m. – tickets will be sold all day; winners will be announced at 2 p.m. and contacted by phone or e-mail.
The touch tank is located at 315 Market St., Portsmouth, right next to the salt piles on the Isles of Shoals Steamship Company dock.

The touch tank is home to some of the many organisms found in the intertidal communities of the Gulf of Maine. Some of the featured
animals currently residing in the tank include a giant moon snail, a huge Atlantic hermit crab, and several sea scallops. Visitors can also
see, touch and hold sea stars, sand dollars, green crabs, rock crabs, periwinkles, whelks, mussels and more. Visitors have the chance
to get up close and personal with these marine critters by watching their underwater lives through the tank’s viewing panels, as well as
reaching into the tank to gently touch and hold its inhabitants.

Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation is a Portsmouth-based nonprofit organization whose goal is to inspire people to make good
choices on behalf of the marine environment by organizing local beach cleanups, studying whales, and offering hands-on educational
programs. For more information about Blue Ocean Society, the touch tank or Saturday’s event, call (603) 431-0260 or visitwww.
