Lindsey Graham of Sandown is Miss New Hampshire 2009. She competed as Miss Seacoast in the 63rd Annual Miss New Hampshire
Scholarship Program Thursday, April 30th through Saturday night, May 2, 2009. A 22-year-old 2008 summa cum laude graduate of
Fordham University (accomplished in only three years), Lindsey's degree is a BA in Broadcast Journalism and Theater Performance. She
spent her freshman year at St. John's University where she finished the year with a 4.0 GPA. She is a 2005 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas
High School-again, with a 4.0 GPA.
Lindsey's platform issue is "Loud & Sound: Speaking Out for Mental Illness." She serves as the Volunteer Coordinator for Keep Sound
Minds, a non-profit organization founded in memory of Kaleigh and Shane Lambert and their aunt Marci-all of whom were killed on Interstate
495 in January of 2008 as a result of Marci's mental illness. Lindsey helped organize a successful fund-raiser for the organization held at
the Sheraton in Boston with over 500 attendees. She also produced and directed a television program on mental health.
An accomplished theater performer, Lindsey won the Best Actress in A Musical Spotlight Award for the roles of Belle and Eponine. As a
vocalist, she won the Female Gospel Vocalist of the Year Award from the New Hampshire Country Music Association and took home the
international title of Female Gospel Vocalist of the Year from the North American Country Music Association International. While a student
who was interning at CourtTV in New York City, she also served as soprano of Carnegie Hall's "Christmas Spectacular!" For the Miss New
Hampshire competition, Lindsey accompanied herself on the piano during talent, singing an original arrangement of the Leonard Cohen
classic, "Hallelujah."
Lindsey was honored this year with both the MAO Scholar Award and the Suzanne Knox Memorial Academic Merit Award. Her community
service work also brought her the prestigious Meg Geraghty Memorial Community Service Award. She won $20,000.00 in scholarships this
year at Miss New Hampshire, bringing her total to nearly $50,000.00.
Lindsey's academic ambition includes obtaining a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater Performance. Ultimately, she would like to pursue a
career in acting-ideally, on the stage. She plans to devote her year of service to raising awareness of mental illness and working to erase
the stigma for those afflicted and their families.
Lindsey's parents, Dr. Gary and Tina Graham, reside in Sandown. She has one sister, Jennifer, of Los Angeles, California.
She will compete for the title of Miss America the week of 2009.
