Make 2009 A Year of Discovering New Experiences By Angela Hughes
|
2009 is the perfect time to focus on “discovering new experiences.”
At the beginning of a New Year, it is easy to feel enticed to set resolutions. We set New Year’s resolutions, keep them for a week or two, and
then we move on to “life as we know it.” What if this year your resolution was to experience and discover new things in life? What if you set
out to try to discover things that you have never done? When we experiment with new discoveries, we often discover ourselves. We grow,
we find the things we are missing and we mature. Growing closer to those who we experience it with is one of the many great benefits of life.
The following is a list of great ideas to discover and enjoy life with your family.
Explore the outdoors with your children. Have you tried putting on a pair of snowshoes and walking around New Hampshire? Not only is this
a great calorie burner, but a terrific way to spend time with your children. If exercise is a New Year priority, then this is a great way to spend
a relaxing day outdoors. Take plenty of water, bundle up and start snowshoeing. Teens especially love to get out and tackle the outdoors
and there is no better way to see it than up close and personal on a set of snowshoes.
Take a break from sports and discover the arts with your children. Sports and technology are really replacing the cultural arts in so many
different ways. Check out your local theaters, museums and college campuses. There is a huge selection of theaters, museums, orchestras,
musicians, and performances available. Many of the local performances and museums are still affordable, and you will enjoy recognizing
something spectacular that has been nearly deleted from your child’s generation. As you both experience the arts together, your minds will
be enlightened and you will discover how wonderful the cultures of the past and the future are.
Enjoy the scenery of the beautiful state of New Hampshire. We live in a state that is covered with streams, lakes, waterfalls, oceans, and
mountains. Grab a map, locate a place you have never been to, jump in the car, and go there. We easily become creatures of habit and
repeat the same experiences over and over. Try out a new restaurant; investigate new activities in the area you’re visiting. A change of
scenery will give you a breath of freshness, a feeling of newness.
Try a new hobby. Have you wanted to learn photography, Tai kwon do, or Italian cooking? Look for inexpensive community courses, and
take a class together. If time is limited, pick one hobby each season to work on. Learn from the Internet together, and translate that into your
activities. When you build a common interest together in your family, you create a bond that is generated through conversation, and fueled
by time spent together.
Experiencing and discovering things together is a great New Year’s resolution. Families grow stronger when they discover life together. Look
for ways to spruce up your 2009 by increasing your confidence to experience new things with your family members.
