Red Carpet Lashes
By Kriss Soterion
False eyelashes aren’t just for the red carpet! If you want to lift or brighten up your eyes subtly or glam it up for a special event, false
eyelashes are a powerful accessory to your make up. The most important tool you will need to apply them to yourself is patience, as it takes
a steady hand, keen dexterity and skill.

There are many types of false lashes to choose from that will give you a range of results. Lashes come in a more natural brown or an
enhancing black. Individual lashes can be added one at a time to build a look suitable for daytime, clump lashes add a powerful lift to just
the outer lashes, and strips can totally give you the look of a celebrity. You will need the lashes, adhesive, tweezers, a mirror and a
toothpick to get started.

Apply your eye makeup first, emphasizing the top lash eyeliner a bit more dramatically than usual. Waterproof liner works best because it
doesn’t contain a lot of grease which can affect the adhesive. If you choose the strip lashes, you will want to hold them up to the eyes and
gently place them to see if they fit properly on your eye; they can be trimmed down easily if they are too long. Pick up the lashes in the
center with your tweezers. Apply the glue to the end of a toothpick and carefully draw an even line of adhesive along the base of the false
eyelash. Make sure the ends of the lashes have enough glue to hold them in place. Never put glue directly on the eye. Look down into your
mirror and gently place the lashes onto your natural lash line, placing the base of the false lashes as close to your lashes as you can, and
holding them in place for a moment for the glue to adhere. Use a pressing motion to tap the outer edges of the lashes into place with your
lash line. It will take about a minute for the glue to totally dry, so keep blinking as it dries so you do not cause your upper and lower lashes to
stick together.

To add additional drama and thickness you can curl the lashes together with a lash curler and apply another coat of mascara to seal the
lashes together. If you love the look for everyday, you may want to consider getting lash extensions! But watch your pocketbook, they can
cost an excess of $200 and they need to be maintained every 6-8 weeks.
