As the days get longer and the sun beats stronger, layers come off and sandals and sunglasses come on. Just as wardrobes and styles evolve with the seasons, so should your skin regime. We all know that nothing is worse for skin than a harsh New England winter. As the ground bursts forth with new life, one look in the mirror will tell you that your skin lacks that same spring glow. But it's not your skin--it's the dead, flaky and scaly layers caused by abrasive winds and frigid temperatures that hampers that dewy summer radiance.

So as you shed your clothes, shed some skin too! Carol O'Connell, founder and director of Skin Serenity Medispa in Haverhill, Massachusetts, says that one of most popular treatments she sees women doing this season is The Salt Body Glow, which is a full body treatment that helps slough off all the dead skin built up from the previous winter. Those calloused hands, rough knees and dry elbows become supple and smooth by the end of the procedure. If you want to give your face some pampering as well, Carol recommends the Ultra Sonic Facial which drives the molecular weight of the product deep into the skin resulting in high cell turnover and superior hydration. "It's like a peeling method," she says, "it gets rid of the dead skin that blocks the pores. It gives you that fresh look."

It may start in the spa, but it doesn't end there. Keeping up the regime at home is most important. "Anti-oxidants help keep the skin from further damage," she says. She recommends buying a product with a high content of vitamin A and C to help keep skin healthy and new. And the most important thing to remember? Wear sunscreen. Deep cleansing and peeling treatments give you that fresh look, but they do make you more susceptible to sun damage.

So do something nice for your skin this season. Shed the skin. Your body will thank you.
