Re-use, Recycle, Re-style!
by Denise Nelms
The whole country, it seems, is “going green.” Almost everyone is concerned with producing less waste and using more organic resources. This can be a
challenge in today’s tough economic environment. We are watching every penny while exercising frugal, thoughtful spending.

So, how do we save the planet AND save money? One simple way is an emerging trend in Fashion Makeovers called Re-styling.

Re-styling is when you take an existing item from your wardrobe and update it to make it a “new.” For example, a long dress coat can become a shorter, more
casual jacket. A full below-the-knee skirt can be made into a trendy bubble skirt. Dress pants can be shortened to create summer walking shorts and a boxy suit
coat can be altered to become a cropped, fitted jacket.
With excellent sewing skills you might be able to do this yourself but, for the best results, hire professionals.

First, a Wardrobe Consultant can go through your closet to determine which items are good candidates for Re-styling. These should be high quality, well-
constructed clothes made of non-synthetic materials.

Then find a GOOD knowledgeable
Tailor in your area by getting referrals from friends.

Dry cleaners are also good resources for finding a tailor. Be sure to ask the tailor about their experience and/or training.

Professionals can offer the best ideas for Re-styling your current wardrobe. You’ll create a new look for a fraction of the cost of buying new, and you’ll diminish your
carbon footprint at the same time!
