The Right Image - Primed For Success? Check Your Image.

Think your work speaks for itself when it comes time for reviews, promotions or landing that coveted contract? Not necessarily! According
to a recent survey conducted by Yahoo!HotJobs and Banana Republic, how employees dress at work directly effects their prospects for
advancement.
Yahoo!HotJobs Managing Editor, Tom Musbach, says, “A person’s workplace attire is a reflection of the overall professional image that they
want to portray and it speaks to the care and consideration they place on their work. This can be as important as promptness and
preparedness.” So, if you’re one of those people who wonder “who cares what I wear?” the answer is: your boss and your clients.
A professional image can be achieved with style and comfort; you just can’t wear the same clothes you wear to the gym. Find out what your
company’s guidelines are for “business casual.” Always avoid anything too sloppy or over-exposed. Make sure you are maintaining an up-
to-date, business appropriate hairstyle. Take a discerning look at accessories including briefcase, shoes, and eyeglasses. Are they
looking worn or out of style? Replace them with something professional and flattering. Finally, be prepared by keeping an extra blazer and
nice pair of shoes in your office for when you’re called into an unexpected high-level meeting.
Consider this: If you’re in a business meeting with a client and suddenly their CEO walks in and you’re wearing shorts, you’re not going to
get that business. Don’t risk career success by dressing too casually at work for the privilege of being overly comfortable.
