Friday Night Live on The Patio
This Friday night is the first of the Wingate
Street Arts District 8 week concert series,
Friday Night Live on The Patio.  The Wingate
Street Arts District in Haverhill will again sway
to the blues and tap to jazz.  The street will be
closed to cars and instead populated with a
different band each week.  Maria's
Restaurant will be serving the concert goers
with freshly grilled dinners right on the street.  
Artists will have their easels set up on the
street working on their art while the music
plays.   Our concert series begins on June
19th with PFM, a Haverhill based "art rock"
band.  This concert will start our 6th annual
Friday Night Live concert series on The Patio.
 "The Patio" or Wingate Street itself is the
venue for this concert series as well as other
events through the year.  The series will
close on August 14th with the Spotlight
Playhouse performing a cabaret.

Members of the Wingate Street Arts District
have organized this summer series,Friday
Night Live on The Patio.  It is sponsored by
Merrimack Valley Hospital, Primary Design,
Inc., The Cordovan at Haverhill Station, Bank
of New England, Haverhill Bank, Peddler's
Daughter, Cowan Insurance and Pentucket
Bank.   The music will play from 7 - 9 PM on

CELEBRATEPINK Rockin’ Bowl-a-Thon. Saturday, August 29, 2009. 10am – 4pm, Portsmouth Bowl-O-
Rama, Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, NH.  Teams of four will bowl for 1.5 hours for a small fee. Bowlers are
encouraged individual bowlers in a variety categories.

5K Road Race & Walk, Saturday, September 19, 2009. 9am – noon(ish), Downtown Portsmouth, New
Hampshire going over the Memorial Bridge and returning to Prescott Park.  The CELBERATEPINK Race and
Walk is the second of five races part of  the new Portsmouth Community Road Race Series (www.pcrrs.org).
Serious runners as well as walkers are being encouraged to participate – cost is $20 for adults/$13 for
children 13 and under, if registered before September 1. We encourage racers, walkers, volunteers, and fans
to wear PINK to support loved ones affected by breast cancer.
Touch Tank 2009 Grand Opening This Weekend!
Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation’s free touch tank, located at the Isles of Shoals Steamship
Company dock on Market Street, will hold its grand opening celebration this Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. Come see all the tank has to offer!

The free event will mark the beginning of the marine touch tank’s full summer season, when the tank will be
open every day. There will be snacks, story time, crafts, games, and lots of critters. Raffles will give visitors a

Summer Activity Ideas
Idea #1: The Fort At Number 4 in Charlestown, NH is a fun and educational attraction both kids and adults will
enjoy visiting. The Fort is a re-created fortified village that exists in what was the most northerly British
settlement in colonial times. The many buildings and structures at the fort and live interpreters illustrate the
history of the period and give visitors a chance to experience what life here was like in the mid-1700s.

Idea #2:
Wolfeboro Trolley Company Offers Two Fun Attractions. On your visit to New Hampshire’s beautiful
Lakes Region, plan to spend a day or more at Wolfeboro. Wolfeboro is a picturesque village located on the
southeastern shore of Lake Winnipesaukee. Wolfeboro Trolley Company offers two unique opportunities to
tour the town and spend time on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee.

Idea #3:
The Millyard Museum - Manchester, New Hampshire. When you want to visit a museum that covers a

Boston’s history stretches beyond the land to the
sea. Boston has a wealth of maritime history – both
past and present. Bostonians welcome crews and
cadets from all over the world to their harbor on a
continual basis as part of the Sail Massachusetts
Visiting Ship Program and are gearing up to greet
the return of the Tall Ship fleet for Sail Boston 2009!
Known as America’s Walking City, Boston is home to many historic sites that date back to the American
Revolution. Visitors to Boston are encouraged to stroll the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile red brick walking trail that
Bunker Hill, near the Charlestown Navy Yard and the home of the USS Constitution, the oldest commissioned
ship afloat in the world.

Sail Boston is an official Port of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009 (TSAC). The trans-Atlantic regatta will
start in Vigo, Spain. From there the fleet will race to Tenerife in the Canary Islands, en route to Bermuda. The
fleet will then race to Charleston, South Carolina before racing to Boston, for Sail Boston 2009. From Boston
the fleet will cruise in company north to Halifax, Canada. From there the fleet will race back across the North
Atlantic to Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Sail Boston will entertain its younger audience with educational programs focusing on US and international
maritime history. Cadets and crewmembers will be available to educate children of all ages of their personal
experiences at sea, home countries and more.
The Children's Museum of New Hampshire offers a variety of programs
for children from preschool through middle school. From science
classes to overnights, museum educators have designed engaging,
high-quality programs that feature hands-on opportunities
for learning while having fun.

Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation

The Blue Ocean Society, based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, offers a 'whale' of a good time! With a marine touch tank open to the public and located at the Isles
of Shoals Steamship company, kids can get up close and personal with marine life. Blue Ocean offers a variety of programs to increase awareness of the Gulf of

Hillsborough Balloon Festival and Fair – Hillsborough, NH
Hillsborough Balloon Festival and Fair
July 9 – July 12, 2009
The Hillsborough Balloon Festival and Fair features some of the best regional performing artists and draws
several thousand people each year. Events popular besides hot air balloon rides and demonstrations
include truck and tractor pulls, a 5K road race, a midway with carnival games, food and prizes, a firemen’s
muster, and parade. On Saturday night there is a fireworks extravaganza. Admission to this event is free but
there is a $5 parking fee. Balloon rides are offered on Friday through Sunday, weather permitting, and there
are costs associated for each passenger. For those who do not want to take a full ride, there are tethered
options at reduced rates. On Friday evening there is a night glow presentation where several balloons inflate
on the field and the glow from the propane lights up the night sky.

Litchfield Celebrates its 275th Anniversary


Litchfield, NH – The Town of Litchfield will celebrate its 275th anniversary on Saturday, September 19, 2009.
Townspeople are encouraged to mark their calendars from now and plan on attending this commemorative, fun-
filled event.

Non profit community organizations are invited to join in the festivities as food vendors and with a low to no cost
activity for residents to participa te in during the afternoon program at Griffin Memorial School, located on Route 3-A in
Litchfield.

The morning’s activities kick off with a parade, followed by historical programming and entertainment at notable
Town building such as the Aaron Cutler Memorial Library, Litchfield Community Church Presbyterian, and Old
Meeting House, which currently is the home of the Litchfield Historical Society. The celebration moves to the
elementary school grounds in the early afternoon, and will feature games, refreshments, activities, music,
demonstrations, and much more.

Donations are currently being accepted to offset costs related to the celebration, and there are many opportunities to

a Public Market
in Portsmouth
monthly through December.

The next event is on August 1. All events
occur from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Frank
Jones Center in Portsmouth. The Market
features gourmet foods, pottery, clothing,
jewelry, home accents, art and more from
small New England businesses. Future
Public Markets will be held on Aug. 29,
Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 21, and Dec. 19.
