The Applaud Women publication is dedicated to women in New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. It's purpose is to inspire, inform, and
applaud local women. The core of the magazine is our inspirational women's articles, most of which feature local women but occasionally we are
able to interview national women who we feel provide a unique inspiration for our readers. Our other articles cover topics of interest such as food
recipes, home, garden, beauty, health, fashion, dating, parenting, seniors, finance, business, hair care, skin care, advice, real estate, insurance,
weddings etc. Each issue has a feature section as well. Many of our articles are written by local business people who provide information
relevant to their business expertise. The Applaud Women website is also a resource center for local women including the most comprehensive
listings of Restaurants, Weddings, Female doctors and Hotels. It also includes a number of informational pages with links, articles and RSS feeds
to both local and national websites of interest to women in NH & n. MA. To read the publication click here then click on the cover image to turn

As New Englanders, we all know how brutal the winter weather can be, especially when it comes to our skin. The
whipping wind mixed with freezing temperatures is our skin’s worst enemy. With the proper knowledge and products,
however, the battle against winter skin can be won.
Our hands are often the biggest victims to winter weather. With so much exposure to the cold, dry air, the skin can
crack and suddenly every movement becomes very painful. There are simple steps to avoid this. First, make sure to
wear gloves EVERY time you go outside. If your gloves (or any other article of clothing) become wet, change into
dry clothes immediately. Wet fabric can cause both chafing and irritation, especially to sensitive skin. Applying a
thick hand cream before bedtime and wearing gloves while sleeping to seal in the moisture is a great way to pamper
yourself. Try it on your feet as well – they will be sure to thank you.
It is important to have an army of skincare products specifically for the winter months, and they should all be loaded
with moisturizing ingredients. For example, instead of using bar soap in the shower, try switching to a body wash
with moisturizers like Olay Body Quench. Also, as great as a steaming hot shower may feel on a cold winter’s night,
it’s better to stick with simply warm water. The extra hot water breaks down lipid barriers in the skin, causing it to
become dryer. Always remember to moisturize your whole body after a shower. When choosing body lotion, make
sure to pick an oil-based lotion, because the oil creates a protective layer on the skin that helps lock in the moisture.
It’s also smart to use a thicker facial moisturizer, but make sure to choose one that won’t clog your pores. A great
one that hydrates and keeps your face looking radiant is Dove Deep Moisture facial lotion. For a special treat,
pamper your face with a great homemade oatmeal mask. Combine equal parts of raw oatmeal flakes, egg yolk, and
honey. Mix well, spread all over your face, and relax for 20 minutes. When time is up, wash the mask off with
lukewarm water and your face will feel smooth, refreshed, and most important, pampered.
Keeping up a moisturizing routine will help you avoid the pain of crackly winter skin. We all know how quickly spring
comes, so why not have your skin ready to soak up those first few warm days?
